Editorial BY EDMOND ARIZAJ Yesterday was the final effort of the aspiring parliamentary candidates and party leaders. The former to secure their names on the safe lists, and then to be as high as possible, the latter to avoid causing too much dissatisfaction. Changing names, moving them, removing one or another, new entries, maintaining balances, rewarding the loyal, has been a major headache for the two leaders of the big political forces. Of course, the scenes were different. Berisha seemed calmer in the half-whispered thanks to those selected, but also in the silence of those excluded or left out. Different with Rama. More noise, more coming and going, more conversations, promises and changes. In any case, the biggest “problem” was solved for all parties, whether in coalitions or not. The names of the dozens of candidates who will represent several flags and colors in 23 districts have now been settled. They will now go into the field to do “qilizëm”, and naturally the greatest burden will fall either on the last names on the lists, or on local government leaders. The question being raised, before the hysterics of the election campaign begin, is: how much do they represent the interest of the electorate, or of the membership of each... ▶ continued on page 19
