Commentary Comment BY PREÇ ZOGAJ The campaign as an enemy of the left On Sunday afternoon contradictions and skepticism in the left camp marked an unusual cocktail, so much so that a keen observer of political life in the country, the cold-blooded bastard of rotation, was heard saying to his socialist friends a lapidary phrase, tinged with black humor and despair. The phrase was: “The only chance you have to hope for victory is to stop the campaign.” What had happened? On one hand, both the intellectual and popular taste had been bombarded with the convention of historical claims by PS candidates and allies, where recognition and merit were endlessly drowned in the numerically dominant anonymity of that environment, and where Edi Rama, in yet another act of creative mockery, had seized from the national pantheon the portraits of the great figures of culture to use them as a bench in the background of his mediocre, even illiterate parade, which he had the audacity and pleasure to present as the national team of national rebirth! The convention of hysterical presentations was ugly not only for this reason. I remember, years ago, the Theater of Tirana, at the end of a festival tried to imitate the Oscar awards ceremony.
