Commentary BY ERION KRISTO Let the files of communism be burned! This is an imperative; categorical, the Kantians would say. And there is a reason for this. It is clear that once again our country will have elections, where a very important process in our democratic life, decommunization, has not even been touched upon. But not only in these elections, but also in past elections, when a filtering scheme was supposedly in place, it did not work at all. People who had been barred before later entered the system, and to this day we have them at the head of the country's affairs. Under the current conditions, this process does not even seem on the horizon, so it is considered completed or in fact impossible to carry out. The files must be burned, because there is nothing interesting in them for those in the know, merely things that can arouse suspicion. In fact, many interesting things have disappeared from the files over the years, so the cleansing process has meanwhile worked selectively. The false hope that the files can be opened and society cleaned of the sins of the past has only directed energy into one mill, into the mill of those people who... continues on page 15
