Comment BY ERION KRISTO Why “the farm of knowledge” was absent from the campaign If we had read Ngjela Karaiskaj’s latest novel, “The Farm of Knowledge,” we would have understood very clearly why, during this prolonged campaign, the country’s academics and scientists themselves did not appear. They did not engage in this important and vital process for the country’s destiny either. Their presence was absent from television studios, their articles were absent from newspapers, and scientific judgment on the parties’ programs was generally absent. For years, scientific judgment on our vital issues has been missing, but academics have not been absent from party lists whenever those parties have needed to demonize the other side. So, we are clearly dealing with alienation, but not with analysis or displayed intellectual courage. The purpose of this article, however, is to provide some explanations for why the country’s appointed academic class has kept silent and continues to keep silent, concerned only with intellectual grooming... ▸ continues on page 11
