The fall of the myths of power
History tells the story of how N.Bonaparti promoted one of his generals. After the promotion he asked him how he felt. He replied that he felt many times more powerful and more motivated as the best soldier in the hierarchy. Bonaparti cut him off: do not rush, nothing has changed in you. I have given you a piece of silver on your shoulders, but I have not changed your head. It is what you had and what you will have with or without promotions. This case is often mentioned in politics when analyzing the relationship between accidental political careers, those who are not political accidents, cases when a completely unknown name, without any merit, without any quality and without any expectation is promoted/appointed to a high public office. In many of these cases the CV and the country’s needs do not matter as much as other indicators of the individual, his personal relationship with the leader, his loyalty and credibility in service.
