A few days ago, some old friends from Shtyllas in Fier, former convicts and persecuted people, met me to express a concern they had regarding their property. Shtyllas is an internment village established in the “golden” years of the dictatorship, where it initially served as a labor camp for the Vjosë-Levan-Fier irrigation canal and, after the canal was completed, this “illustrious achievement of the Party,” the political prisoners were sent to build other works, while families interned from all regions of the country were brought to Shtyllas.
