Comment The Economist Europe goes to the ballot boxes After five exhausting years, it is very likely that most European citizens would like to throw the entire political class into the fire and torments of Hell. But the European Parliament elections, to be held from 22 to 25 May, do not include this option, so a record number of them will not even bother to show up to vote. Many of those who do vote will support the populists. Overall, anti-European parties could win more than a quarter of the seats. The National Front in France, the Freedom Party in the Netherlands and the Independence Party in Great Britain are likely to get the largest number of votes in their history.
