Commentary BY Epidamn Zeqo*) New ideas on economic development The socio-economic situation of Albania from 2011 until today continues to be dramatic: there are no new jobs, neither high-quality nor low-quality; there are no significant new investments and there is no high growth in Gross Domestic Product. Like the whole economy, the housing market too has been taken over and survives only through barter and is in a “zombie” state – nobody takes or gives money, euros, dollars, pounds, and everyone is waiting and anxious, because they have obligations. The value of every property in Albania, except in a few small key areas, has fallen sharply in the past three years. This situation is tragic for a developing economy that is not at war, that is, for an underdeveloped economy in peacetime, with much higher and realistic, feasible development potential.
