It is only a slogan of interest. In Greece they treat us better when we call ourselves Vorioepirotes. We are Albanian, but I did not learn Albanian only at school. A journey among the Vorioepirotes can begin anywhere in southern Albania, but the spirit of the concept can be felt more strongly in villages surrounded high in the mountains, or in those lying at the edge of the sea. That is also what happens in what is called the pearl of the Albanian coast - Dhërmi. Even though the village, hidden behind Llogara, was once said to belong only to shut-in villagers and workers whom the then regime sent there to reach the sea. The village of black stone slabs, of almost Greek first and last names, the village of Petro Marko and the “Pirates’ Cave,” of the residence of officials, of villas and hotels built late and of the remains of those that were destroyed... continues on page 14
