Commentary BY Ilir DHIMA The Prosecutor’s Office amid tests of independence After the scandal broke over the theft of a considerable sum of money from the State Treasury vaults, the attention of the Albanian public, and even that of a portion of the public outside our country, has largely focused on the activity of the Prosecutor’s Office to uncover the truth about this act and on the causes linked to the concrete responsibility of the leaders, who created ample ground for an unprecedented robbery in any central bank in the world. From the investigative actions so far, but also from the clues expressed sotto voce in a blaring trumpet, more and more questions arise every day: Is the amount declared so far of 7.13 million lek the final limit of the theft in the Issuance Department (alias, Sector X) of the Bank of Albania?
