THE WORK OF PARLIAMENT IN THE JURIST'S JUDGMENT

- Interview with former Socialist Party deputy Fehmi Abdi - I. How do you comment on the fact that the Parliamentary Party of P.S.M., on the government bench and from the opposition side, is seen as becoming in some way an important factor in the country's political life? The Socialist Party has won this position through a great and uninterrupted effort in parliament, through its parliamentary group and through its presence in political life. This is a victory of work, not of noise. The latest developments in the country call for an organized and responsible opposition, capable of presenting clear alternatives and defending the interests of the broad layers of the people. In this sense, the role of Socialist deputies in parliament has been visible and noteworthy. In parliamentary debates, economic, social and legal problems have been strongly raised, as well as issues concerning respect for the law and for citizens' rights. This work has not been easy, because it has taken place in a tense political climate and under conditions of difficult transition. The Socialist Party has known how to use parliament as a political tribune to express its positions and denounce negative phenomena in governance. It has been a reasonable opposition, but also a determined one when it has come to opposing acts or decisions that run counter to the interests of the country. On the other hand, parliamentary work has also revealed weaknesses, lack of experience, as well as the need for better coordination between the parliamentary group and the party structures. Nevertheless, the overall balance remains positive. (continued on page 4)

Its recent positions, its conduct toward political opponents, and the language used in public debate show that democracy often remains only at the level of declarations. Within this framework, signs of intolerance, pressure, and attempts to delegitimize different voices have emerged. This not only does not serve democratic life, but seriously damages the country's political culture. (continued on page 4)
