Meeting in the Senate On 23 April, the delegation of the Socialist Party met in Washington with Mr. [?-]dca, senator from the state of Maryland, with whom a very useful conversation was held. The above-mentioned senator described the PS delegation as a very important development for free education in Albania and an opportunity to leave lasting traces in relations with the USA in support of free and democratic elections. The senator stated that the report of the chairman of the PSD presented a rather paradoxical picture compared with what was being reported in the press apparatus. Meeting with the Research Center of the American Congress The delegation led by the deputy chairman of the PSSH (Sherif Merdani), also composed of his deputy for external relations (Sokrat Kshmersi), the editor-in-chief of “Zëri i Popullit,” and the vice-president for Europe of the Soros Foundation, held a consultative meeting with experts at the Research Center of the American Congress. The delegation became acquainted with the structure of this body, the problems it studies, as well as the work through which the issues submitted by the American Congress for decision-making can be examined and regulated. In particular, the participants in this meeting expressed interest in learning more about publication procedures, the relations between the People's Assembly and the American Congress, and respect for human rights in Albania. Many of the questions asked by our delegation received detailed answers, which shows the seriousness of the relations being created. At the end of this meeting, the PS delegation was invited to closely follow a session of the American Congress.

The participants congratulated them and informed our delegation that it knows well the activity of the PS in their country, where important democratic processes are taking place. [?-] in the council From the outset they have pointed out that economic, financial and military discussions, as well as those on democratic cooperation, are under way. He assessed that this important role can be played by the Socialist Party of Albania. Referring to the creation of a joint commission, with members from both countries, he said that the discussions would focus especially on the fields of economic development, foreign policy and military defense, and administrative reforms, in the spirit of progress and stability in the country. In this context, he stressed that cultural and educational relations between the universities and research centers of the two countries should be intensified.
