I have given you the opportunity to understand the great concern of the opposition leader and of broad public opinion in Albania about the endangerment of the approaching free elections and of the democratic processes as a whole
Inevitably, therefore, these concerns must be raised seriously before the international factor, in the region and beyond, which has a direct and long-term interest in establishing democratic standards in Albania. These concerns are an indication of a major problem, with unpredictable consequences for the country's stability. First, from the hand of a regime that tramples on democratic civic and political freedoms, and second, from the instability that this kind of regime produces for Albania's future. We have had to include [sic] in the joint letter of the chairman of the PS and of the ASD, in which the European Community, the OSCE and the Council of Europe are called upon to observe and not leave these developments in the hands of an ignored warning for unimpeded [??].
