Socialists project the future

24 - 25 August - 2nd Congress of the PSSH On the basis of yesterday afternoon’s ceremony, the echoes of the continuing success of the insult and the success, humor and expressions of the PS candidacy in the 26 May elections were heard. At this first step in politics, all the time our spotlights were directed toward the socialist victors. The framework in the likely perspective of the 20 October elections already seemed clear and necessary. The outline speech yesterday at the second conference of the fund, by the chairman of the PS, Fatos Nano, the co-governing dialogue, the motion, the alliances, the economic platform, summed up Albania’s political future. By becoming part of the discussion, not only members of the leadership and the secretariat, but also other PS politicians, the invitation to the media and the participation of various political and artistic figures clearly showed that the effort to redefine the socialist alternative is now seen by many analysts as the only mechanism for giving the opposition coherence and clarity. Alongside the work of the first years of debate at home and abroad, over two consecutive days at the new headquarters of the PSSH the platform on Albania’s major issues at the turn of this millennium has been prepared with seriousness. In organizing the major meeting, at which personalities from Albanian and European politics will be present, admirable work has been done in recent weeks. A new working experience has come to life, concretized on Thursday with the press conference of one of the senior leaders of the pink headquarters, where, in addition to reporting on the progress of preparations for the Socialist Party congress, the agenda topics for this forum were also announced. In 9 sessions, in meetings and activities with various circles, members of the leadership, the secretariat and the future government, as well as well-known figures of the left, will take part. All this atmosphere, charged with work, will be preceded by a press conference at which leaders of the pink headquarters will explain the programme, allies, etc. to the media. Not only to give greater strength to the organization of such a forum as the 2nd Congress of the Socialist Party, but also to turn it into a tribune for reflecting on the new governing alternative and for accountability before the socialist electorate, the voices coming from the pink headquarters announce that its success is set to culminate. Thus, on 24-25 August, the country’s most prominent political leaders, decision-makers and business figures, many MPs and intellectuals, as well as representatives of sister left-wing headquarters in Europe, will gather at this forum. Today everyone rightly asks and is curious about the quality of the congress organization, but also about the composition of the future leadership, the secretariat and the other government candidates, and not only that. Convinced that the Albanian left is consolidating its political, socio-economic profile, and that with the solution of the country’s major problems through its credible programme and a competent professional team, it will be even more credible both at home and abroad. No other political force has been able to secure success except by pursuing Berisha’s line, as the Socialist Party has done, which through the debate it launched sent messages and a great many visits to political groups, not only to Albanian political circles, once again proving that it is the most truly political and the most emancipated voice.
