Runoff votes for the socialists

On Sunday, 27 October, the second round of local elections. Voting will take place in 19 municipalities and dozens of communes Indifference is a vote for Berisha In Pogradec, 18 votes in favor of the Socialist Party candidate were considered invalid in order to force him into a runoff. In Gramsh, the Socialist Party candidate is sent back to face the test again on Sunday after only 14 votes in his favor were deemed invalid, which pushed him into a runoff. In Saranda, 300 votes were enough to deny victory to the Socialist Party candidate. In Gjirokastër, 1,100 unused votes of the official Socialist Party candidate in the 45.87 percent contest put him back in the race on Sunday. Damaged ballots, incorrect counting, invalidation of Socialist votes, hundreds and thousands of uncast votes hidden, manipulated or unused by polling-station commissioners have made it possible for the socialists to enter the runoff. In other words, in this round the socialists were not only deprived of hundreds of votes, but in quite a few areas they were forced to repeat the contest and, on Sunday, obtain far more votes than they should have, as if what happens only to the socialists had not taken place. They must repeat the battle even though they had secured the majority of voters since last Sunday. This situation today forced the general secretary of the PPSH, Servet Pëllumbi, to call in a press statement for the CEC to correct the mistakes, violations and abuses of all polling-station commissions and not allow them to be repeated on Sunday. The PPSH considers the runoff to be an indicator of the will of the people and, as a result, this Sunday citizens must turn out massively to vote in support of the candidate of the left-wing coalition. The PPSH statement speaks of scandals and manipulations in the areas where the revote is taking place and where right-wing candidates are trying to win by all means. According to data from PPSH branches, in Pogradec the Socialist Party candidate received 27 more votes than the candidate of the right-wing coalition, but the chairman of the municipal commission sent 20 Socialist Party votes without a stamp, while the ballot papers that were to be counted as invalid were 26 fewer than he claims. 1 PS polling station states that the MPD candidate was favored; likewise, in Pukë there were losses and mistakes in two polling stations. According to complaints from Socialist Party observers, the majority of invalid or damaged votes were ballots in favor of the left-wing candidate. In the polling station of the city's school 1, in polling stations 173 and 3 of the schools, several ballot papers without a stamp or signature would be counted, while many others that were in order were declared invalid. By contrast, some ballots in favor of the candidate of the right-wing coalition remained valid and were counted as such. In Vlorë, the Democrats forced the Socialist Party candidate into a runoff by a margin of only 18 votes, declaring hundreds of left-wing votes invalid. In Gramsh, our correspondents report that the right-wing candidate was taken into the runoff because 14 votes for the PS candidate were rejected for various reasons. In Saranda, the citizens' preference for the left-wing candidate made him an undisputed winner, but artifices were created to prevent the first victory. In Gjirokastër, Saranda and other cities, the socialists must vote once again for the victory of the left-wing candidate, which they built for the first time on 20 October. Page 3
