All together to save Albania

The General Steering Committee of the Socialist Party meets PSSH will take part only in elections that have international guarantees to be free, fair and equal FATOS NANO, CHAIRMAN OF PSSH: “Let us intensify and continue, with all our potential, the political, institutional and electoral activity of the PS so that this political battle to overcome this crisis, to bring the country out of it and to elect the new government, free and fair, and the victory of the opposition, may be crowned with success, giving people everywhere in Albania the message that in this struggle the guarantee for their future is secured with the anti-Berisha opposition” Let us finalize the victory of the people’s will at the KPD of PSSH The KPD of PSSH has held its meeting yesterday, analyzed the situation and reaffirmed the previous decision, officially announced on 20 April 1997, as the outcome of the people’s victory, and the statement of the KPD of PSSH reached this conclusion. 1 President Berisha and the governing right of the Democratic Party have lost all legitimacy and authority and control over part of the country’s territory. 2 PSSH strongly supports the actions of the National Parliament and the National Reconciliation Commission with the aim of transferring to free and fair elections and the election of the new government until chaos in the country is avoided. PSSH will take part in the elections that will be organized within this framework and under these conditions. JOSEP, EU, EC [?] for their organization and implementation. The electoral confrontation, until the official announcement of the election results, according to the concept, constitutes a historical chance to avoid the anarchy and chaos of Albania, and in principle it will not submit to unlawful and anti-constitutional attempts to suffocate this free and fair election for the election of Albania’s new government. 4 PSSH cannot be part of any government at the end of this process if the international standards for these elections are not met. Otherwise PSSH will pursue its political actions for the administration of the country together with the anti-Berisha opposition. 5 The KPD assesses that the process of creating the Central Electoral Commission of PSSH [?] will continue according to the criteria defined by consensus and under the observation of the international community. 6 The KPD positively assesses the creation and functioning of the Central National Reconciliation Commission on the basis of the agreement. 7 The KPD authorizes the Presidency of PSSH and of PSSH in the districts to undertake all necessary organizational and political actions and the involvement based on the elections and the anti-Berisha opposition of the Albanian people in this process. Albania needs to be jointly governed In the conditions where, due to PD, Albania’s existence as a governed state has been brought to the brink, and where democracy and the democratic independent class as the ruling class are being destroyed as a result of its scandalous governance, chaos has arrived; only one alliance is valid: to remove from governance of the country the Berisha clan, which represents a consensus of all the opposition, and through the future government’s cooperation with the anti-Berisha opposition.” SHKODER Bitter disputes in the PD branch Berisha and peace is represented by Vranicki in Durrës The International Community will do everything possible for soft solutions to solve the chaotic situation in Albania. These were also the main words of Mr. Franz Vranicki, former Prime Minister of Austria and personal envoy of the OSCE in Albania, in a meeting with the citizens of Durrës. During the meeting, Mr. Vranicki said that he clearly understands the serious situation in which Albania finds itself, but there is a way out. “To escape the crisis, your country needs calm. Albanians must find a democratic and mutual-understanding solution through a government and free elections. I am pleased that the citizens of Durrës are showing restraint. I hope this continues in the coming weeks,” he said. Read on pages 2-3
