Yesterday, the Chairman of the PSSH, Fatos Nano, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Reconciliation, Bashkim Fino, and the PSSH Secretary for Foreign Relations, Mago Lakrori, received Marcello Spatafora, Italy's Ambassador to Tirana, at the KPD headquarters.
PSSH deputies and the Italian Ambassador discussed preparations for the International Conference on Albania, which will be held in Rome on 31 July 1997. At this conference, which will also be attended by the Prime Minister and the Party Chairman, Albanian affairs will be discussed, and the economic and financial situation, as well as cooperation between Albania and all the participating countries, will be reviewed.

Towards NATO with Confidence and Dignity
Membership in NATO is achieved through a lengthy process of integration. In this respect, Albania, like the other countries that have embarked on the Partnership for Peace, is involved in this process. The establishment at the Madrid Summit of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, of which Albania is a member, represents a higher form of organization and constitutes a step in this direction. NATO membership is the highest level of integration. Thus, Albania has embarked irreversibly on the path to NATO membership; the question is one of the pace and timing of achieving this objective, which is also an absolute priority of Albanian foreign policy.
