Our historic challenge

By Rexhep Meidani On Monday, 22 November, we are in the midst of the most important constitution-making events for the nation. The committed and responsible vote for the new Constitution, which on 8 November the Albanian people sanctioned by referendum, will even more strongly mark the future destiny in history. On 22 November, despite being crippled by the barbaric act and by our own of the PJK, the Albanian state, the central institution entrusted by the sovereign people to bring legal administration closer and put it into practice. The Albanian people, regardless of the anger and grief over the murder of the Democratic Party deputy Azem Hajdari, the place of the people for its destiny and all the words. In order to give light and visibility to dubious deeds, the dark forces that sowed anxiety and destabilization in September and that tried to seize the state institutions, avoided the farce and the democratic, modern, European referendum and more. Responsibility, instead of making one with shadow and brilliance, the destructive forces rejected and threw mud at the Constitution of the country with their vote. I ask you to unquestionably value the importance of the new Constitution as the fundamental document of our future state. It is understandable that someone may have shown partial indifference toward the great constitutional act. On 22 November, civic consciousness and the people’s destiny will face each other and will decide the word, the word. Stable peoples, lasting and renowned, are legitimized by elections and by referendum. As a European nation, we are such only if we build and respect the rule of law and its institutions. Today, 22 November, at the center of our historical attention, will be the voting of 22 November. Whether we will choose the new Constitution or not. Such a choice enables us to build a calm society for economic and social development. Non-participation and boycott unwittingly lead to the virulence of those who aim to destabilize the country. Today, on 22 November, Albanians have in their hands the power to separate the road of the future from the past. (Continues on page 2)
