AFTER A NEWS ITEM PUBLISHED YESTERDAY Sources from the state commission for the verification of public figures reacted immediately yesterday to a news item published in the newspaper “Zëri i Popullit”, which reported that a member of the People’s Assembly had turned out to be a former collaborator of the State Security service. “There is not one, but seven former collaborators of the State Security service, whose names appear in the relevant registers.” The same source also noted that no employees of the presidency had turned out to be collaborators of the State Security service. When questioned by “Zëri i Popullit”, the source in question refused to make the names public, but asked the newspaper to be more accurate in providing information and not to wrong former State Security collaborators. Thus, speculation about the suspects is expanding: attention is no longer focused on one suspect, but on seven. However, there is a problem: only the names appear in the records, not the files that prove their activity. This does not mean there is no way to establish the facts, either for the suspects in parliament or for those in the presidency.
