Another arrest order from the General Prosecutor’s Office: Large-scale fraud theft,

Vehbi Alimuça was arrested on the evening of Monday, 27 April, at 20:13, at his home in Tirana. The arrest warrant sent to the prosecutors by the police states that he has been “placed under house arrest,” referring to the person sought for several weeks. The reason for this measure was the VEFA company. This company is one of the largest in Albania’s history, with thousands of depositors involved.
The arrest order for the former president of VEFA Company, issued by the General Prosecutor’s Office, was sent to police officials yesterday morning, while his arrest was carried out in the evening. During this time, Alimuça, accompanied by the prosecutor in charge of the case, gave statements at the Ministry of Interior. According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, the arrest was made for “theft by fraud on a large scale,” an offense provided for in the relevant articles of the Criminal Code.
The news, first reported by sources close to the investigation, was confirmed late last night by the General Prosecutor’s Office. At that time, the list of other people arrested in connection with the same case was also made known. Along with Alimuça, Dilaver Leskaj, Kryen Devisili and Vangjelica Merlaki were arrested as well. Their names are linked to the administration of VEFA and the company’s financial activity during the period under investigation.
The news, spread all over Tirana yesterday, finally revealed the position from which action was to be taken against the most talked-about figure of these days. All sources state that Alimuça’s arrest came after a period of extensive checks and consultations, while the investigations are expected to shed light on criminal and financial responsibilities.
