Prime Minister Fatos Nano received Professor Rexhep Qosja yesterday evening. In an atmosphere of warm, friendly emotion, the two interlocutors spoke at length about the Kosovo issue and the increasingly difficult reality being imposed by force through Belgrade’s aggressive policy. It is now time for more frequent and constructive contacts, so that no opening is left for adventurers or provocateurs of any kind. We need as much reason and self-control as possible, because the main goal must be to spare as many human lives as possible, the two interlocutors said. The Albanian government will continue working to find a swift, peaceful and lasting solution to the Kosovo issue, using every opportunity available to influence the decisions of its Western allies. The United States of America in particular is, at this moment, a key factor in resolving the crisis, Prime Minister Fatos Nano said, emphasizing the frequent, constructive contacts with President Clinton’s special envoys, Talbot, Holbruk and Gelbard. For his part, Prof. Rexhep Qosja said that contacts between Tirana and Prishtina should continue at every level, especially the intellectual and academic levels. But, he added, what is important is that decisions concerning the people of Kosovo be made by those circles and individuals who have authority and influence in Kosovo.
