WOMEN: THIS IS HOW THE SERBS RAPED US

The Serbs raped a woman who was seven months pregnant TESTIMONY Kuk; Serbs, camps where the systematic rape of Kosovar women takes place LONDON—Britain says there is evidence of repeated rapes of ethnic Albanian women. The news was reported by the BBC after Foreign Secretary Robin Cook said many accounts had emerged of women being systematically raped at the military camp in Gjakova, in southern Kosovo. “Drita,” who wished to remain anonymous, told the BBC that she and seven women were in a refugee camp and that the women had been separated from their families. She said the women had been raped by Serbian soldiers and that four of them had been executed, including a woman who was seven months pregnant. “They started shooting wherever they could and then ordered us to leave our homes. Four of them were wearing masks. One was from my village. He started beating me and the others; one of them was a commander. The commander told my father, ‘Your daughter is good to take as a wife, as a Serbian wife.’ “All four grabbed me by the arms; one had sex with me, one beat me, and the others kissed me. ‘When you’re down, you can’t escape, and at that moment I thought God did not exist. I thought they wanted to kill me, but no. They didn’t want to kill me. For me, it would have been better to be killed than left alive. I wanted to kill myself,’” she said.
