Poci in Korçë: Political witches want another 14 September

KORÇË. “Political witches are trying to recycle other 14 Septembers.” This is the forceful statement made yesterday in the city of Korçë by the Minister of Public Order, Spartak Poci. He called on politicians and honest people in Albania “not to follow these ways of thinking. We will not allow the country to be destabilized. All criminal elements who want and intend to destabilize the country will be struck hard.” PAGE 8

Exclusionary, communist proposals*

Yesterday, the FRESSH Executive Board read in the newspaper—being unable to learn about them within the PSSH forums—some proposals for amendments to the PSSH statute, made by Executive Board member Petro Koçi. In response to these proposals by the former Minister of the Interior, which concern limiting the age range for FRESSH membership, the Executive Board wishes to clarify that: - The PSSH statute guarantees FRESSH’s existence, functioning and activity on the basis of its statute and programme (the FRESSH statute). - The FRESSH statute clearly stipulates that FRESSH membership is for people aged 16–34. - FRESSH is a member of the Socialist Youth International and an observer member of the European Union Socialist Youth. Its founding documents, programme and statute, along with all their provisions, are consistent with the documents of these organizations. In light of the above, the FRESSH Executive Board regards former Minister of the Interior Petro Koçi’s proposal as: • intended to undermine FRESSH’s autonomy of activity. • intended to undermine FRESSH’s autonomy of action and decision-making. • intended to exclude an entire generation from FRESSH’s activities, a generation capable of contributing in the service of the Euro-socialist alternative. The FRESSH Executive Board considers such proposals outdated, unacceptable to social democratic parties, and belonging in the old archives of communist parties. * Statement by the Executive Board of the Albanian Eurosocialist Youth Forum (FRESSH)
