TIRANA - Under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic and Chairman of the High Council of Justice, Rexhep Meidani, a meeting of the council was held on Saturday. According to the press and information office of the HJC, the Council, in accordance with the agenda, considered eight disciplinary proceedings submitted by the Minister of Justice against judges from the districts of Shkodër, Fier, Berat, Durrës and Vlorë, who had been the subject of complaints over irregularities in the adjudication of various court cases. At the conclusion of the review of these cases, after hearing the Minister of Justice, the judges and their lawyers, the Council decided to approve 7 of the requests submitted by the Minister of Justice for the imposition of disciplinary measures, and one request for a warning of dismissal from judicial office. As for the Minister’s request to dismiss one judge, it was not approved because the violations of which the judge was accused did not convince HJC members that the extreme measure of removal from office was warranted; instead, the judge was sanctioned with a formal warning. In their discussions, HJC members expressed concern about improving the process of bringing before the HJC those judges who truly deserve to be removed from the judicial system because of incompetence and dishonesty, calling for greater care in addressing such cases, which are not absent from the judicial system.
