If you cannot manage to defend our policy, do not openly despise it. Why does the division of Kosovo's status frighten you?
The agreement must be based on Kosovo’s sovereignty and not on anyone else’s temptations. Albania cannot take upon itself the role of spectator in a process that directly affects Albanian national interests. If the international side aims to close the issue with an imposed compromise, that would be unacceptable to Albanian public opinion. Therefore, a clear, firm, and responsible stance is required from state institutions.
These are also the views expressed by the author of the open letter, addressing President Rexhep Meidani and Prime Minister Pandeli Majko. He asks that Albanian policy not remain passive, but defend the rights of the Albanians of Kosovo with arguments and international guarantees. In the end, he also refers to diplomatic pressure and the fear of escalation of the situation.
Nëse nuk arrini të mbroni politikën tonë, mos e përbuzni hapur. Pse po ju tremb ndarja e statusit të Kosovës?
Marrëveshja duhet të bazohet në sovranitetin e Kosovës dhe jo në tundimet e askujt tjetër. Shqipëria nuk mund të marrë përsipër rolin e spektatorit në një proces që prek drejtpërdrejt interesat kombëtare shqiptare. Nëse pala ndërkombëtare synon ta mbyllë çështjen me një kompromis të imponuar, kjo do të ishte e papranueshme për opinionin publik shqiptar. Prandaj, kërkohet një qëndrim i qartë, i vendosur dhe i përgjegjshëm nga institucione shtetërore.
Këto janë edhe mendimet që i shpreh autori i letrës së hapur, duke iu drejtuar Presidentit Rexhep Meidani dhe Kryeministrit Pandeli Majko. Ai kërkon që politika shqiptare të mos mbetet pasive, por të mbrojë të drejtat e shqiptarëve të Kosovës me argumente dhe me garanci ndërkombëtare. Në fund ai i referohet edhe presioneve diplomatike dhe frikës nga përshkallëzimi i situatës.

L’accordo deve basarsi sulla sovranità del Kosovo e non sulle tentazioni di qualcun altro. L’Albania non può assumere il ruolo di spettatrice in un processo che tocca direttamente gli interessi nazionali albanesi. Se la parte internazionale intende chiudere la questione con un compromesso imposto, ciò sarebbe inaccettabile per l’opinione pubblica albanese. Perciò, dalle istituzioni statali si richiede una posizione chiara, ferma e responsabile.
Sono anche queste le opinioni espresse dall’autore della lettera aperta, che si rivolge al Presidente Rexhep Meidani e al Primo ministro Pandeli Majko. Chiede che la politica albanese non resti passiva, ma difenda i diritti degli albanesi del Kosovo con argomenti e garanzie internazionali. Alla fine si richiama anche alle pressioni diplomatiche e al timore di un’escalation della situazione.
