We escaped communism. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE COMMUNISTS?
The human dimension of democracy is choking us! In reality, we are choking democracy’s human dimension, and the strange thing is that we are still afraid to seek out those responsible for the centuries-long dictatorship.
What are we doing? Who are we fighting? Who damaged the image of the democratic person? Who are we supposed to begin with, or who are we supposed to lose to? The phantom war against windmills is taking our breath away, and we are lamenting the author of Don Quixote! We are seeing Enver Hoxha himself; we are almost calling on Lenin and Marx to answer for what happened during the dictatorship of the proletariat, even though it is known that neither of them was ever part of the PPSH Central Committee nomenklatura! It is known that none of the classics of Marxism-Leninism predicted the political genocide and the great prison that was Albania, and, worse still, none of them stood trial in their own countries. God was the first to put Enver Hoxha on trial, taking his reason from him and filling him with a mania for plenums. But who dealt with the directives at those plenums? Who distributed directives and historic decisions throughout the districts? Who had the right to sign orders for the arrest and internment of Albanians? Who deprived families with a «bad biography» of their education? Enver Hoxha has now even lost his most powerful believers: they saw the world, capitalism, and cursed it. No trial could be greater than their hatred; even harsh Nuremberg could hardly deliver one. A trial that can never end... But... Enver Hoxha’s henchmen are still being served up to us as the seed of democracy, and we are almost forgetting them. Communism died and they remained «alive»; Marx was cursed, and they are now putting Marx’s capitalist economy into practice. Take a look at some of them: Feruz Mataj, appointed Grand Chairman for the distribution of aid arriving in Albania from the West! The real Feruz Mataj, the one from yesterday, the man who served communism harshly and devotedly, at high party-state levels, is now being assigned a first-rate state task... a state task that brings the victims of communism the gifts of ruin! In Durrës, theft and compromise over the aid are rampant... and Feruz is pure. Feruz is an honest man, since even democracy needs him, just as it needed him until yesterday. Look at the former deputy director of the famous Labour Party school. Now that the diploma from that school is no longer worth... (Continued on page 4)
Where is Dhimitër Gazhga—the man who brought Albania into debt?
With his foreign-exchange dealings, Dhimitër Gazhga «lost» around 270 million US dollars for our state, nearly half the foreign debt inherited by the Albanian state from the past. Mr. Dh... played the stock market like a gambler with the State Bank’s money and lost hundreds of millions of dollars.
Former Prime Minister Çarçani, former President Alia, and their vassals knew about it.
When the democratic press exposed this act—which was organically connected with the many tons of Albanian gold transferred from the State Bank to Switzerland—Dhimitër Gazhga disappeared, heading for a familiar destination... Athens. At the instruction of his seniors, who knew all about it. There was a great uproar at the time. And the (de)stability government demanded, purely for appearances, that he come here and stand trial. Dhimitri returned proudly and replied: they themselves ordered me to gamble; gambling is a matter of chance. And off he went again to Athens with his family, where for a year he has been living in a villa that even the Greeks envy.
Whether or not he lost this money in foreign-exchange dealings, nobody can prove. Perhaps the foreign-exchange scam was concocted in the former Ministry of Internal Affairs’ laboratories to conceal a communist-style swindle, common among the dictatorship’s clique.
All right, the (de)stability government, headed by Bufi, wanted to pardon its old crony Dhimitër Gazhga, but how will Meksi’s new government explain the millions of dollars to the public?
A question requiring an urgent answer. Because if the perpetrators of crimes known throughout the world are concealed, they open the way to further corruption and disillusionment.
May Mr. Gazhga forgive me for the concern I have caused him from afar. I know I should have left in peace the luxurious exile who has the privilege of being surrounded by governmental silence.

Greek racism against the Çam population has gone beyond every limit
The facsimile we are publishing is taken from the passport of citizen Musa Isuf Zenelaj, an employee of the Ministry of Heavy Industry and Mines.
After he received his visa in accordance with all the procedures at the Greek Embassy, the Greek employee eventually noticed that his birthplace, mentioned above, was Çamëria, and immediately scribbled over the visa that had been granted just moments earlier. Any further comment on this issue would be superfluous...

Comrade Anastas Kondë will soon reformulate the accusations
— RTSH SHOWS IMAGES OF THE ANGEL ASTAS.
On the evening of 11 December, Albanian television once again showed the founder of socialist realism, former head of propaganda of the PPSH Central Committee, formulator of claims and accusations against Albanian writers and artists, and closest confidant of Ramiz Alia, Anastas Kondë.
Anastas, once again the persecutor of the intelligentsia, spoke again after all this time, without abandoning his old habit of closing his eyes, addressing Albanian men with maxims and philosophical pronouncements as though he were the most humane man and a benefactor of humanity.
As is known, after numerous SUCCESSES, Anastas became an ideological writer for the Labour Party, deputy minister of Education, and chairman of the Committee for Arts and Culture. Intellectual Kondëri tried all those posts, just as Ramiz Alia, as part of «renewal», wanted to remove him. In particular, television called on him for help, and he came and spoke as he once did: with his eyes closed, humane and unbelievably kind. But will benefactor Anastas start drawing up indictments again, indictments against writers and artists?

It is no coincidence that all the politicians, deputies, publicists and government officials refer to history when discussing these problems. Mr. Millo, in his discussion-lecture in parliament, said: «Precisely because we have a [unclear] of “political education” that was widely used in the schools of the party, in campaigns, [unclear], and even for professional organizers. Without disagreeing with this view, I would make it easier by trying to clarify the opinion of this [unclear]...
The Democratic Alliance adopts Mao Zedong’s theory
Despite its pronounced European orientation, the new party called the «Democratic Alliance» is using, in its attack on Albanian politics, not only the Greek chauvinist arsenal and non-Albanian arguments, but also Mao Zedong’s theory.
In its latest issue, the newspaper «Koha Jonë» publishes this theory on its front page and advertises it as the one good thing awaiting Albania now, following the birth of the «Democratic Alliance».
After listing the bad things, it is finally revealed that the good thing is that the Greeks will help the new party. This shows that the AD parties may later adopt other important theories of the great Asian M-L, which could be suited to the realities of Albanian politics. This does not diminish their value as anti-communists at all.
While public opinion in Albania, stirred up by PAD and PS, has not yet calmed down over the evils that will supposedly befall Albania now that it has joined the Islamic Conference, the European Community announces that an agreement has been signed to disburse 90 million dollars to unblock the balance of payments. It is not clear whether the EC did this out of spite toward PAD and PS, or out of spite toward the Islamic countries trying to entice Albania with their accursed Bank, which, damn it, has a lot of money. In recent days, PAD has sent a protest to the Council of Europe and the EC, in which it will explain the historically mistaken timing of the disbursement of this aid, «the surrender of human rights that will naturally follow this, since Albanian Muslims who want Albania in Jeddah will benefit from this aid, as will the other political consequences within the country. Above all,» the protest says, «this aid is being given at a time when we have not yet overthrown the government, and this strengthens its position».

Historians viewed Machiavelli as a politician and not as a historian. He studied the ancient authors of Greece and Rome, Christian authors, the European Middle Ages, and the developments of political wars and plans in Italy, and from these drew important ideas that princes, the rulers of Europe, should follow in the future. His politics, or the art of governing, rested on these two foundations. Thus, it is said that a politician who does not know history is deficient and anachronistic; not every historian can be a politician, because, alongside knowledge of current developments, the politics of a statesman also demands other abilities related to the speed and strength of political action today and, in general, to Albanian intellectuals.

TOMORROW... TOMORROW... ALBANIA, THE GREAT PIT...
THURSDAY, 10 DECEMBER 1991
Although the weather that day was cloudy and rainy, the madwoman N. of the capital was seen on Tirana’s central promenade, followed by a small crowd. It was not understood why she did not prefer the usual platforms, opposite «Arbëria» and «Tirana».
Along with the followers who would not leave her, many curious onlookers gathered right in front of the Skënderbeu monument, where the madwoman N., after looking at the crowd once, turned toward the monument.
«Good grief,» someone in the crowd cried, «she wants to climb onto Skënderbeu’s horse!» But the madwoman N., after looking at the monument several times, turned back toward the crowd. It seems she gave up the idea of using Skënderbeu’s bronze horse as a platform and said:
«Didn’t I tell you Hajdin Sejdia would withdraw? Yesterday he got off the plane with three large suitcases of dollars, with Dhimitër Gaxha at his side. Did you see him meet Ylli Bufi, Fatos Nano and Adil Çarçani, who had come out to greet him? He gave the small suitcase to Adil, one to Fatos and Ylli, and he has the other one for the democratic government.
The dollars the government took from you are with Dhimitër Gaxhga, whom Ajdin appointed chief secretary. Did you see him on television? Gëzim Qinjami filmed him... Oh yes, Cemal Sasot has the suitcase too. Ben Imami is returning from Greece today; he went there to meet someone. Sali Berisha sent him to Greece to become a Christian. If Imami becomes a Christian, Albania will be saved... ha-ha-ha... but tomorrow, tomorrow the customs officers arrested by Blerim Çela will stand trial. Blerim Çela arrested them, but Genc Ruli released them. They gave Genc Ruli two lorries of goods, and he released the customs officers. Tomorrow... tomorrow... Tomorrow Xhelil Gjoni will become a priest. That’s why he has grown a beard. His church will be in the Block... And we used to get potatoes for seven lekë; today we get them for four hundred, and we used to get [them] for 80, today we get [them] for 1,000. Ramiz Alia’s road cost 25 thousand lekë, Sali Berisha’s 100 thousand... There are people for four hours, in the [unclear] for four hours...» It was unclear what the madwoman N. meant: the name of the newspaper she was holding and glancing at from time to time, or the twenty-four hours.
Tomorrow... tomorrow... Tomorrow Hajdin Sejdia will give Neritan Ceka the big pit behind the Palace of Culture to help the alliance party.
Ajdin Sejdia is going to parliament tomorrow. Gramoz Ruci has filed a motion... an interpellation... Bashkim Kopliku has posted guards at Ajdin’s pit.
Do not go near the pit...!
After these words, the madwoman N. set off toward the bank, muttering almost in one breath: «potatoes, priest, Xhelil... the president... customs».
FRIDAY, 11 DECEMBER 1992
Today the madwoman N. of Tirana did not appear on any of Tirana’s streets. The weather was sunny and warm. Someone said they had seen her on Bank Street, surrounded by Chinese policemen.
SATURDAY, 12 DECEMBER 1992.
At 10 o’clock, the madwoman N. was running in «Skënderbej» Square.
Looking furtively left and right, she pulled a very long, very long and very thin leek from her black bag... shouting: Long live Shahin Kadareja!... Long live Shahini!... THE CHRONICLER
