Before two weeks had passed, representatives of our two largest parties, the Socialist and Democratic parties, made their next pilgrimage to Athens. About two weeks ago, one of the Socialist Party’s leading figures, Bashkim Zeneli, attended a meeting of left-wing political forces in the Balkans, while the day before yesterday a delegation from the party in power, led by its secretary-general, Tritan Shehu, had just concluded its visit. Official policy and the political lines of several Albanian political forces, in the period following the thaw in Albanian-Greek relations, seem to have entered a race to see who can move closer to Greece. The various comments that supporters of New Democracy, also visited the headquarters of the party in power, where, among others, he spoke with the secretary-general of the Greek Socialists, Xoaxopullos. Such a thing would not have made much of an impression if one did not bear in mind the positions taken until just a few months ago, when both PASOK and “New Democracy”—not to mention other small parties and anti-Albanian chauvinist circles—were engaged in an unrestrained race in a campaign of attacks against the Albanian state and Albanian political forces that opposed the political line formulated in prescriptions coming from Athens and supported in Albania.

Meetings with senior figures in the American administration are expected Yesterday, the president of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, arrived in the US for a visit. During his visit to Washington he will meet a number of important figures in American political life, including the Republican majority leader in the Senate, Bob Doll, the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Xhesi Helms, Senators Eliot Ingell and Suzan Molinari, and others. Of immediate interest is Dr. Rugova’s expected meeting with the Secretary of State, Uorren Kristof-er, with whom he is expected to discuss the complicated situation prevailing in Kosovo as a result of Serbian repression. The Ministry of Justice appoints a minister of the Progress Party (PP). After checking the relevant documentation and bringing it into compliance with the constitutional laws in force, the minister gave his approval for the party to be approved as the 37th party in Albania.
