The DP has shut the door to the Right itself

For more than two months, the DP leadership has been completely immersed in the campaign to elect the party's local leaders. It is not worth dwelling on the various vicissitudes that have accompanied the election campaign in DP branches, such as the disagreements between the grassroots and the center over the appointment of branch chairpersons, the removal from leadership of people with criminal records, or the appointment of young people from the FRPD to head them. Ultimately, these are matters that belong exclusively to the DP and do not concern us. But what draws our attention is the fact that in several cities, its leaders, either in their presentations or in answering questions from those present, have raised the possibility of alliances, even pre-election alliances, with those who have more or less realized what their prospects are now, and are aware that they will never be able to remain in power on their own. But to form an alliance or coalition with someone, first and foremost you must share common points in your programs and be guided by the same ideals in achieving your ultimate goals. Alliances and coalitions, besides being a necessity, become possible after a preparatory or trial period, if we may call it that. It seems the DP leaders have not considered this: after having a pleasant dream, they wake up and seek to form an alliance with anyone who happens to cross their path. The LDSH, from the moment of its creation, Their presentations, whether while answering questions from those present or otherwise, have put forward ideas about the possibility of alliances, even pre-election alliances, with LDSH. When we hear the PD leaders’ wishes for alliances, we are pleased, because we understand that just the fact that in some cities its leaders, whether in their presentations or while answering questions from those present, PD leaders, who, after having had a pleasant dream, who happens to cross their path. From its very founding, LDSH’s platform, on which the unity of the right-wing groups that are part of it was based Continued on p. 2

Former bloc members voluntarily pay in their first millions...

Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of former President Alia; his address is not correct. Former bloc members voluntarily pay in their first millions... Today it is Adil Çarçani's turn Former bloc members are paying the fines imposed by the 1993 court ruling for illegally misappropriating the people's money. Yesterday Manush Myftiu showed the enforcement officers the payment receipt; they had gone to seize his house because he had not paid the sum of 4.5 million lekë. Also yesterday, Foto Cami paid the first installment of 500,000 lekë. Five days ago, the Enforcement Office had seized two rooms belonging to Foto Cami, valued at 2.5 million lekë, giving him five days to pay the remainder of the sum; otherwise, the house would be put up for auction. On August 1, 1995, Foto Cami filed a complaint with the Chairman of the Tirana Court, Qazim Gjoni, who, following the entry into force of the new Code of Criminal Procedure, has the right to order the suspension of enforcement of the court decision. Yesterday morning he received the official response that he had to pay the remaining amount set by the court ruling, 2.5 million lekë. Today it is former Prime Minister Çarçani's turn. He is required to pay 6 million lekë. If he does not make this payment by 14:00, the state will intervene…

The Socialists don’t know how to make demands

After three days of cooling off, the SP raises the temperature Most of the participants, also spurred on by the leaders and speakers at the rally, shouted against the slogan “Freedom - Democracy.” Yesterday, a rally of the Socialist Party was held at the Indoor Sports Hall, calling for “the release of Fatos Nano.” A thousand elderly pensioners were present, who, in addition to calling for Nano’s release—the reason the rally had been organized—also shouted other slogans of a “revolutionary” nature. Many times, the mouths of those who were cheering Continued on p. 2

The month of August will be a month of holidays for all those who live on state salaries. Some may even fear that things will reach the point of essential functions being brought to a standstill. We assure everyone that those who have taken on the most debt, the few people who live on salaries from the state, are of no importance at all. Thanks to his foresight, he did not take on so much debt that… [?] After all the politicians have gone on holiday to the beach, all political activities will be broadcast on RAI 2. Only political parties that do not participate in parliament will be represented. Those that participate in parliament usually have nothing to say, since they are on holiday. The “Repayment” Prize is announced for the politician who has repaid the most of Albania’s debt. The prize will be presented by the politician mouths of those who were cheering —the politician who, I believe, remembers saying that we are living at the expense of our children, or something like that. Without the slightest pang of conscience, I declare that I am not a member of any party. This may seem to some like mistaken politicization, since you cannot be independent without belonging to an independent party, but I have chosen my mission and would not trade it even for the profession of political commentator.
