What is the government's position

Pursuant to Article 89 of the Rules of Procedure of the People's Assembly, I request that the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Aleksandër Meksi, come to the People's Assembly for an interpellation to provide explanations for the following questions: Request for an interpellation with the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, A. Meksi What is the government's position Pursuant to Article 89 of the Rules of Procedure of the People's Assembly, I request that the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Aleksandër Meksi, come to the People's Assembly for an interpellation to provide explanations for the following questions: 1. Does the Prime Minister believe that we are facing a deeply serious situation involving several social ills linked to clandestine migration, such as: clandestine trafficking of migrants, child selling, the export of prostitution, and the spread of drugs? What is the official position of the Albanian Government in this situation? 2. Does the Prime Minister believe that the work of the specialized bodies (Public Order, Army, etc.) has been effective in stopping clandestine migration? How can the lack of determination in taking measures on the ground be explained so that we do not have tragic crises, such as the one on 1 December 1993, while the Government has in principle stated its position in favor of taking the relevant measures? 3. Does the Albanian Government recognize the need for coordinated action and for the definition of specific responsibilities for those who organized clandestine migration and for those who tolerated its implementation? How does it see the way forward? Do these people, who risk their lives for a better economic situation, not deserve a better fate and real care from the Albanian state? 4. Considering that the solution to the migration issue is closely linked to several government ministries, does the Prime Minister think that an ad hoc Intergovernmental Commission could be created, with all the extraordinary powers required by the extraordinary situation we are in. What has been done for an official agreement regarding migration that would also facilitate clandestine migration; how can the Prime Minister explain the fact that the official statements of the Albanian Government have not been at the same level of concern and commitment, or have been entirely absent? 6. The selling of Albanian children in Italy must no longer exist. What drastic measures against this selling does the Albanian Government propose, who will have the authority to take these measures, is there cooperation with the Italian side. Interpellation and when will the Public Order bodies be able to be on high alert and ready to pursue this crime with incalculable consequences? Provide data on the measures taken in the cases that have been identified. Is a harsh reaction by the judicial bodies being considered, up to the death penalty for child abductors? Deputy MEHMET CELIKU We hope that the Presidium of the Assembly will examine this issue, which is of particular importance, at its first session. According to still unverified reports, from Vlora there have been no updates for days on the fate of several other boats.

We have had no news of our relatives since 25 November

I am writing to you about a family concern of mine. Letter to the editor We have had no news of our relatives since 25 November I am writing to you about a family concern of mine. My name is Asllan Imer Eterni, and I live in Fier. On 25 November 1995, my brother Ahmet Imer Eterni and my brother-in-law Qerim Hoxha from Mitrovica in Kosovo set off for Italy in the now-familiar way, by speedboat from Vlora. Along with them, 14 other people also departed, among them 2 from Llovani in Fier, 2 from Kosovo, 1 from SMT in Fier, and 3 from Vlora, as well as others whom I do not know. To this day, 2 December 1995, we have had no news about their lives. Neither the motor dinghy nor its crew has returned. The departure was made from Seman in Fier. Given that your newspaper is very close to the people on such issues, we ask for your help in making this event known to public opinion and to the embassies of neighboring countries. I hope that the help I am asking from you is not excessive. With much respect to you all Asllan Imer, Fier [?]

The return of the migrants has begun

Yesterday, another 1,100 migrants were returned, among them many who had been badly mistreated and one unidentified child who had still arrived from the island of Crete. Things expected from the southern border The return of the migrants has begun Yesterday, another 1,100 migrants were returned, among them many who had been badly mistreated and one unidentified child who had still arrived from the island of Crete. Thus, according to the Republic, the operation 'The Sweeper' is being put into action. Besides the 800 police officers and the Ioannina division, which cover 85% of the border line with Albania, the Greek government will increase the number of forces to make it possible to cover 100% of the border line. This week, calculations have gathered more than 8,000 migrants, who are expected to be repatriated in the coming days. On the Albanian side too, measures have been taken to strengthen the border and, in particular, police forces have been sent to ensure the normal repatriation of Albanians. To prevent a repeat of the situation from a year ago, when many migrants were robbed as soon as they entered Albanian territory, and especially to stop weapons bought in Greek shops from being brought in, the police have organized careful checks. Also, in the autumn return, a large quantity of the plant 'Canobis Sativa' seeds was brought in, and for this reason the police have taken strict measures so that there are no repeated cases. Control has been strengthened in particular to prevent clandestine crossings not only in the Korça border region, but also in the Saranda border region. In any case, the Government must insist with the Greek authorities that the return of migrants be stopped, especially those with families and documents, who in recent returns have been numerous. ... with many transit visas and a legalized seasonal processing for them, not only would it cost much less than the electronic system for sealing off the borders, but it would also bring reciprocal economic, social and political benefits... Interpellation with Meksi, the left also agrees

The left also agreed that Prime Minister Meksi should be questioned in Parliament. Interpellation with Meksi, the left also agrees The left also agreed that Prime Minister Meksi should be questioned in Parliament. The filing of the request by the republican deputy, Celiku, at the Assembly protocol office has been reviewed and also supported by the Albanian left. “Undoubtedly, with this writing, says the deputy and secretary of the PRS, Ilir Meta, regarding migration as an acute problem, we have the signatures of the socialist deputy Skënder Gjinushi. Let him sign it too, so that we can concern him with it.” The purpose began a week earlier. Last Saturday night, several boats set off from Vlora toward the Strait of Otranto. Two days later, many of them were lost at sea. The Republican Party is the first to have institutionalized its concern for this tragedy, and at its Council meeting decided to ask Meksi, through deputy Celiku, to come to account for the event. “He will answer for what happened, so that it is not repeated later, as well as for the legalization of migration.” “Clandestinity is a problem with many consequences,” says socialist Meta. “The Government must plan all the routes for dealing with legal migration.” At the Government there is still Gjinushi, who says that an agreement should be drawn up with the Italian side. “For this our Government speaks,” he says, “which respects clandestinity more, because we have more private betrayals. It is Albanian officials who are blocking the agreement with the Italians.” Gjinushi also agrees with the response to migration, but says that the migration problem concerns the left-wing parties more. Meanwhile Ilir Meta thinks differently: “The migration problem should simply be exploited for party purposes,” he says. A. S.
