Settling scores is now called reform
Nano: “I am still alive”
At a time when all the attention of the country's political circles was focused on the issues arising from the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and on the start of work by the new Parliament, elected after the 26 May elections, a motion from Bënça suddenly, and perhaps paradoxically, came into the spotlight. What made this motion by the Socialist chairman interesting, more than the call for reform, was the demand to remove the PS's existing leadership from the party's helm. Indeed, Nano, by demanding that the program proposals to be presented in the second part of the congress that began in March be drafted by a group of people who were not members of the party leadership, effectively made the removal of his four deputies a fait accompli, not to mention Ruci, who has already withdrawn himself.
In the motion, among other things, the Socialist leader calls for the party's activity to be reviewed, and for a straightforward debate on the eve of the congress.
Adding to this what Nano brings to light about what he calls the “artificial obstruction” by the “executive leadership” of the chairman's messages, their [unclear] and distribution, strengthens the belief that “the man from Bënça” wants, at all costs, the swiftest possible sacrifice of the work that would be created through Nano's correspondence with the party leaders. It seems that Nano aims to increase the burden of responsibility on his colleagues at the top of the party. All this makes one think that Nano has begun to suspect, or has received signals, that the other leaders of the PS, while praising him to the skies as the “symbol of the party,” had decided to sideline him from the leadership.
But the motion's democratic and liberal content conflicts with the way Nano seeks to impose it on others (the ready-made draft decision), which is typical of the practices of the former co-
were not from the party leadership. Thus Nano, with this step, not to mention Ruci, who has left of his own accord. for the party’s activity to be reviewed, specifically its political actions and the tactics used. It also calls for an assessment of violations of the statutory principles governing the party’s internal functioning. But this is a matter for the congress to examine, and there is no reason for it to be shifted to the table of a… “artificial blocking” and distribution, further strengthens the conviction that “Bençe’s man” is seeking, at any cost, the swiftest possible sacrifice of the current leadership of the SP. The fact that he already calls them “pebbles” shows that he must have prepared the ground to make them sacrificial victims. In addition to taking responsibility for the heavy election defeat, the Socialist leader has also called for the recognition of the group of…
…everyone has begun to think that Nano has started to suspect, or has received signals, that while the other heads of the SP were party,” they had decided to remove him permanently from active leadership, leaving him in the position of an honorary leader. It may be that signs of preferences on the part of foreign actors also influenced the Socialist leader’s decision to launch the “motion” operation, showing the public that he is “still alive”…
add to the burden of responsibility borne by his colleagues at the head the other heads of the SP were “still alive”…
But the democratic and liberal character of the motion’s the practices of the former communist parties. Given also that the Socialists have spoken of reform on other occasions without changing anything, this makes one view pessimistically the results that will emerge from the latest developments in the SP.
