Godo sounds the alarm over emigration

“Interpellation with Meksi in the September session” Clandestine emigration of Albanians under pressure from asylum requests “Clandestine emigration of Albanians under the pressure of asylum requests” In 1992, around 300,000 citizens left, mainly specialists and young people. During 1993, the number of emigrants returning to the homeland increased. Also, among those requesting to return, there were only 5–6 genuine cases, apart from some for family reasons. But in 1995, Albanian emigration to the West became a real problem for the Albanian government. Through individual, group, and mainly clandestine departures, 5,000 Albanians were crossing the border every month. Indeed, in March–April 1996 this process intensified, which, more than anything else, is a consequence of the political crisis and the lack of hope for a better life in the country. The chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Social Affairs and Labor, Et'hem Ruka, will seek in the parliamentary commission for clandestine emigration to be discussed especially in Parliament with Prime Minister Aleksandër Meksi. The leading figure of the socialist opposition, Fatos Nano, has been in prison since 1993. On the other hand, given the recent tragic events, Godo’s statement about migration and the events involving emigrants in Italy is understandable. In Albania, the Kosovo issue is tied to the different policies of the government in Tirana within the overall crisis. Parallel to the issue of fighting human trafficking, in other innocent cases, in Albania there continue to be efforts to help those who want to leave the country. The chairman of the Albanian Parliament, Skënder Gjinushi, will raise in Parliament the issue of discussions on migration, and not only because of the serious consequences for the labor market. In this framework, the problems of the legal regulation of the phenomenon of movement and of intermediary practices linked to youth employment will be addressed. At the same time, the consequences of illegal movement will also be discussed, for citizens who try to cross borders without documents, as well as issues of organizing the relevant employment agencies, regulating internships/practices and payments, which are still in process. Because of the lack of experience with this population movement, the government has not yet succeeded in providing the necessary institutional mechanisms to deal with its consequences. According to sources from the Ministry of Labor, emigration has taken such proportions that it requires serious state intervention, not only to register and protect emigrants, but also to prevent possible trafficking and their exploitation. For this reason, various representatives of Parliament have asked for these issues to be placed on the agenda of the upcoming parliamentary session.

The USA speak again, Christopher: Premature solutions in Albania

“The USA will continue to follow with concern the upcoming local elections in Albania and, together with its other partners of democracy in Albania, will continue to follow developments in Albania,” Christopher said in an interview from his home in Washington to “Voice of America.” Also invited to the Washington interview was Pjetër Arbnori, Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, who has likewise been in prison since 1992. The State Department press release, according to a spokesman, said that the United States will engage more in support of Albanian democracy, but decisions in Albania will be made by Albanians themselves. In Albania, in 1996, a large number of documents were published, and the American government emphasized that it supports democratization, development and the growth of Albanian society, but will not intervene directly in its internal affairs. At the same time, in connection with the local elections in Albania, issues of foreign policy and international relations will also be discussed. A statement by a State Department spokesman says that the United States has always maintained its position in support of democratic reforms in Albania, but this does not mean interference in decision-making. These are some of the developments discussed at a press conference in Washington, with the participation of senior representatives of the American government and Albanian media. The American correspondent nashbe- The review of the Albanian issue, says the head of the Opposition branch, Fatos Nano, is of special importance for Albania and for international relations. However, his opinion remains important for future developments, and he stresses that the problems of Albanian democracy are linked to the country’s economic and political situation. In a recent statement, it was said that even premature solutions would be harmful to the country’s stability and would require a broader political compromise. B. Permeçi

The extradition operation begins

Albanian prisoners in Greece The Tirana court orders the extradition of three Albanian prisoners judged for their offense in Greece. Their arrival in Albania is expected soon. The Albanian prisoners had been sentenced to 6 years in prison each, respectively by Greece and to 5 years by the Athens court. Under the agreement made between the two countries, it is also foreseen that they will serve their sentence in Albania. This is the first case of its kind in Albania, and the Albanian government has taken an important step toward implementing international agreements and increasing cooperation with neighboring countries. Albanian justice has also taken measures to speed up extradition procedures and stated that it will continue this practice for other cases that may arise in the future. B. Përmeti
