Excessive insistence sometimes plays into the opponent’s hands
Political life in Albania, despite some efforts, appears to be at a standstill.
This is primarily a consequence of the boycott that some parties, mainly those of the left opposition, have decided to undertake against all initiatives coming from the DP and President Berisha. Following closely the course of these political developments in the country, especially after the May 26 elections and the forays by our politicians across Europe, one gets the impression that the tactic of boycotting presidential initiatives may well be extended even to the local elections. The opposition, first and foremost the left-wing opposition
The initiatives proposed by President Berisha, being incompatible with the demands and suggestions coming from the Council of Europe and other European institutions, give the opposition grounds to justify its actions against these initiatives, primarily its boycotting of them. The PR, although it agreed to participate, this does not mean that everything was in order. The PR was motivated by the desire and aim of serving the country’s stability by finding common ground among the country’s political forces, which cannot be achieved without sitting down at discussion tables.
In this way, when speaking of
And by taking each side’s views, it would serve as a kind of conduit for ideas among the political parties. Ultimately, it should have played more the role of a catalyst for bringing the parties to the table than that of a participant, much less a protagonist.
Despite the stale claims of the left opposition regarding the commission, it would have been more appropriate for the President, bearing in mind the importance of the Permanent Electoral Commission, to leave the appointment of this commission exclusively to the parties, leaving them to appoint its chair as well.
presidential initiatives may well extend even to the local elections.
The opposition, primarily the Socialist opposition, truly feels that it is unable to face another confrontation with the DP under conditions that it and its allies do not believe can be normal.
But it must also be said that, even this way, when speaking of party tables, this means that these and the President should play the leading role. It would have been good, in order to contribute to overcoming the situation that had arisen, for the President to prefer bilateral contacts with various political forces,
Extradition of Mustaqi sought
Seeking to unravel the mystery of February 22
The Prosecutor’s Office is seeking the perpetrators of the killings in February 1991, in front of the former United School, in defense of the “Military Coup” and the dictator Enver Hoxha.
Sources from this body confirm that, following the conclusion of the trial against former Defense Minister Kiço Mustaqi and his two associates Arseni Stroka and Ksenofon Çoni, and their conviction for unlawfully exercising the powers of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, resulting in the deaths of 4 people and the wounding of 27 others, the case has proceeded. According to the decision of the Tirana Military Court, with Shyqyri Dylgjeri as judge, to sever the criminal offenses of the three defendants concerning the killings and the consequences of the “Military Coup,” the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office
[is investigating] the role of Ramis Alia, who “betrayed” the three defendants in his testimony. According to the prosecutor who represented the accused in the first part of the “Military Coup” trial, investigations to uncover the truth must be intensified to identify the perpetrators of the killings. These perpetrators will explain in detail, clarifying who gave the orders and how the entire mechanism of the “Military Coup” functioned. Eyewitnesses and the examination of the circumstances surrounding the 4 killings and 27 injuries are the key that, the prosecution maintains, will lead to the truth. Bearing in mind what actually happened from February 20 to 25, 1991, at the former United School, where heavy machine-gun fire was directed at those who wanted to topple the bust of the dictator Hoxha (according to the testimony
Mother Teresa is not in serious condition
Mother Teresa, who received the Nobel Peace Prize, was admitted to hospital yesterday because she had heart problems and a fever, but according to doctors she is not in critical condition.
“She is resting now,” Dr. A.K Bardhan told Reuters, without giving details.
“We are praying that she recovers quickly,” said one of the Roman Catholic order’s nuns.
The nun, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that Mother Teresa turns 86 today.
Mother Teresa, of Albanian origin and founder of the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, is considered by many to be a living saint.
The only original copy of Gjon Buzuku’s Missal has been lost
The first document in Albanian disappears
News of the loss of Gjon Buzuku’s Missal concerns every Albanian and every lover of culture, because Albanian culture in general, literature, the Albanian language, and the Catholic Church in particular will suffer a great loss.
To learn about the circumstances of its possible loss, Vatican Radio contacted Prof. Dr. Musa Hamiti, who has been researching the Apostolic Library and the Vatican archives for five months. According to him, Albanian and foreign scholars had already established that the sole known copy of the first book written in Albanian, Don Gjon Buzuku’s Missal of 1555, is kept in the Vatican Apostolic Library, under the shelf mark 3-194 and later under the new shelf mark 4-244. This monument of medieval Albanian remained known for a very long time only to a very limited number of specialists. The first news of the existence of this book was given by Monsignor Gjon Nikoll Kazazi of Gjakova in 1740. It is also mentioned in the writings of the Arbëreshë rectors of the Palermo seminary, Parandino and Xhuzepë Krispi. Only individual excerpts were published from time to time.
