PR, just six years ago

. Today the Republican Party turns six. The Initiating Commission, which drafted the program, issued the call to establish the Party and [?] the Party. The first response came from Lushnja and Tirana. Then other initiating groups emerged from almost all of Albania. The country called for the overthrow of communism and, at the same time, for democratic pluralism. The Republican Party’s appearance on the scene fulfilled this demand. What has the Republican Party done in these six years? It is difficult to sum up the activities of this Party, with its active participation in all the country’s political events, especially during a period of great intensity. Nevertheless, today it can be said that the Republican Party’s record has left its mark on people’s consciousness and found a place in their minds, creating the widespread opinion that the PR is a party committed to burying communism, consolidating democracy and establishing the rule of law. Through its many initiatives, the Republican Party has come to be known as a party with a clear national profile. It was the PR that organized the 1993 petition for an independent Kosovo, with half a million signatures. A great deal of time has passed since 1993, and Kosovo is once again back where it started. Meanwhile, circumstances, international policies and Balkan borders may have changed, but Kosovo has once again remained shackled under its peaceful subjugation. The PR has revisited its positions to adapt them to the new reality that has emerged in the region. Nevertheless, it has always called for and undertaken political and diplomatic initiatives for a free and independent Kosovo. Continues on p. 5
