No tolerance for Albania’s arsonists

The PD’s corpse risks contaminating the Albanian Right

The political parties’ round table is turning into a real ordeal. The PD is using every means to obstruct consensus. Some former prime ministers, former secretaries, or former presidential advisers are seeking to contaminate Albania with their political corpses. The issue of the electoral law is increasingly setting it apart and definitively isolating the PD from the political responsibility of stabilizing the country and taking it to the June elections. Its intransigence fully confirms its hidden aim of blocking the policy of National Reconciliation. The criminalization of entire sections of the population by the PD, and its incitement of national division, are only the most [unclear] part of its policy of conflict and division. Democrats are failing to understand that confrontation is now a failed policy with no future—not only for them, but for all political forces that try to put it into practice. The PD’s obstruction of the electorate and other political initiatives does not help it restore its institutions. Quite the contrary! It is also freeing from illusions those individuals and political forces that have been close to it in recent years and still believe in its renewal. It is up to the right-wing forces to react firmly and with dignity to every trick and form of hypocrisy displayed by the Democratic leaders. It is their duty to encourage and rally behind them the idealistic electorate, now thoroughly and definitively disillusioned with the PD. The PD’s corpse, sprawled across its own territory, risks contaminating the entire Albanian Right. Albania’s arsonists must not be allowed to set this right wing on fire. It must unite in a common position and compromise in response to all the dangerous games the PD has played with Albania. The Albanian Right must take the initiative into its own hands. It is the only force that, without the PD, can stand firm and with dignity against the PS in a different kind of political battle. To achieve this, it must carefully calculate its actions and positions. It must neither vegetate nor make concessions to the PD. Otherwise, the PD will continue lighting cigarettes in Albania’s scorching haze—the fire there was started by the PD itself.
