THE NIGHT OF THE LONG KNIVES

Zhulali: “Since they couldn’t ‘make me kill myself,’ they set a trap — Safeti has stolen 4.3 million dollars.”

The shamelessness of the PD and PS cannot claim the right of the victim and the savior

For some time, it has been observed that the contrived word games

[Right?] of the victim and the savior

For some time, it has been observed that the contrived word games between the PD and PS have turned their political ineptitude into a double game of arst?oriale. From the time when, more than the party abilities of the “great ones,” it was the historical circumstances in which pluralist thought in Albanian politics was born but failed to develop that gave these forces this epithet, the respective propaganda of the two parties has sometimes played the role of a person with a phenomenal, almost computerized memory for the other’s mistakes, and at other times that of a senile mind, forgetful of the responsibility they must bear. it has been observed that the contrived word games between the PD and PS have turned their political ineptitude into a double game of arst?oriale. In this context, their entire flirtation generally resembles an ordinary ping-pong table, where the ball of responsibility passes from one side to the other. More particularly, lately, under the banner of “National Reconciliation,” the PD has called for not stirring the spirits of Albanians toward a reckoning of responsibility for bringing the state to a condition of nonexistence. Meanwhile, the PS tries to forget not only the 50-year period when the contingent now leading this party was an executor—indeed, a zealous one—of the communist leadership’s line, but also the early period of democracy, when the destruction then, on a smaller scale, closely resembled what we see today, seeking to place the blame only on the other side. Clearly, neither side is senile. The two parties responsible, PD and PS, with their lust for power, leadership incompetence, mentality, and communist contingent—which they divided between themselves from the legacy they inherited from the communist dictatorship—reduced power to a leaking garbage bin that is no longer useful even as such. In this way, their sole aim is to make the Albanian electorate senile, pretending to forget the grave responsibilities that, ultimately, have stripped them of whatever moral right a party may have to claim power. In the name of National Reconciliation, we must not revive the blind revenge that in Albanian politics is synonymous with the ugly face of class warfare. But no one is allowed to exploit this term, sowing national amnesia and electoral mutilation, while they play ping-pong with responsibility. The PD, and no less the PS, must be aware of the collective crime they committed against the country. As such, the shamelessness of their speeches cannot give them the right of the victim, much less that of the savior. In love with their intimate games, those “at most may remain ordinary ping-pong players, in a game that does not even deserve spectators.”

Politicians are against consensus

Yesterday, the Minister of Justice, Spartak Ngjela, criticized the Albanian political parties for still failing to reach a consensus on the upcoming law for the political elections expected in the country. At a press conference, Ngjela said that his department had prepared two model draft election laws, mainly of a purely proportional nature, which, he said, had in fact divided the parties into two groups in their views on a proportional election law. The first group of parties, PS, PR, PSD, supports a wholly proportional law, without candidate contests, while the other group of parties supports the 1992 proportional system. Page 3
