When elephants quarrel and fall in love

. Yesterday, the two most quarrelsome parties in Albania sat down at one table to decide the country’s fate. Although they accomplished nothing, the DP and PS politicians were pleased that they had taken as many swipes at each other as they could. Indeed, they were so optimistic that they promised to keep taking swipes at one another in the near future. The Albanian public expected that, after the occasional jokes, the leaders of the political factions would also tell a worthwhile story about the Nation’s fate. But that did not happen. The politicians in question merely shut themselves in a hall at the Palace of Congresses for a full two hours and, like wonderful parrots, repeated old and new stories to one another about the South, the North, the upcoming elections and the electoral law. The meeting in question, although followed with considerable interest, brought nothing to light. It seems to have been intended more to calm the hot-headed negotiators who happened to be there. This is not the first time that the DP and PS, at the most interesting and tense moments in politics, have shown one another a strange affection. The two parties at loggerheads have no difficulty coming together to make propaganda, which remains propaganda all the same. The love story between the political wrecks is reminiscent of the story of elephants. When elephants fight, they trample the grass; when they make love, they destroy everything. Albanian politics has unexpectedly returned to polarization. Albanians are once again forced to wait on talks between the extremes of their politics. In fact, it was these extremes that brought this country into crisis, and later they lacked the power to get it out.

Godo hands the MPs over to Pjetri

To the Presidium of the People’s Assembly The Republican Party does not recognize Messrs. Gjon Markagjoni and Isa Sinani as its MPs in the People’s Assembly. The Presidium of the Republican Party has called the attention of the gentlemen mentioned above to their equivocal conduct and their service to another party during last October’s local elections and on other occasions. These gentlemen openly violated the National Council’s decision to attend the Assembly with approval of the list concerning the state of emergency. It is a fact that their position was also contrary to that of the RP during the events that followed. The Republican Party does not deny its MPs the right to vote according to their convictions, but the RP cannot accept opposing positions by MPs who represent it when it comes to decisions that determine its policy. Please take the appropriate action in accordance with the rules of the Assembly. Respectfully, Chairman of the RP Sabri Godo
