The Right has no time to lose
Election day, June 29, is just around the corner, while the formation of the United Albanian Right is still in its very early stages. The leaders of the right-wing formations are defining the foundations on which the new alliance will be built. Unlike the SP and DP, which dominate their allies, the Albanian Right aims to bring together the parties of this spectrum in a modern formation where all are equal and where a common political platform can be established without infringing on the independence of the parties’ programs. The United Right faces a number of problems to overcome. First, the electoral law. It is publicly known that the electoral law for the May 26 elections was the main cause of the collapse of the Albanian Right League. For this reason, the right-wing forces are taking a united position on changing the existing electoral law. The Right’s electoral strategy can be fully determined only after the electoral law has been approved. Another problem for the Right is the DP’s divisive and disruptive stance. The DP’s concern and efforts have focused on preventing a united Right from emerging. Such a Right without the DP would be viewed with confidence by the Albanian electorate as a new hope and governing alternative, which would threaten the DP’s autocratic rule. The DP’s fight against the Right has been continuous, but its biggest blow came with the May 26 law, which prevented the LDSH from running joint candidates. The DP’s recent actions, drawing the PLL and another party or two along with it, are not only deliberate attempts but also failed ones to fragment the Albanian Right. The Legalists should remember that the PR and the other LDSH parties, with their 14-point common platform, gave credibility to their idea of a referendum on the form of government. The Legalists should also remember that the PR was subjected to a barrage of attacks by its political opponents, the SP, DP and several other parties, which accused it of betraying republican ideals. The Legalists should know full well that the DP and SP strongly opposed the idea of a referendum, while now they have taken up the banner of making it happen. In any case, the PR and the other right-wing parties are determined to form a right-wing alliance and go into the elections united, whether or not the DP or any of its satellites like it. The important thing is to speed up the process and set aside any minor disagreements. Because only a united Right can enter the battle at full strength and properly face the SP, DP and their lackeys.
Customer kills owner of “Admiralt”
A shootout at one of Tirana’s most luxurious venues
The victim of the gunfire was 29-year-old Artur Mulletti, owner of the modern poker hall named “Admiral” on the capital’s main boulevard. The crime arose from a customer’s despair over losing a considerable amount of money on electronic games. The killer, a customer, first argued with the service staff and, when the owner intervened to calm the situation, he was killed.
The customer was armed with a pistol and shot him twice, causing his immediate death.
The murder of the 29-year-old is the third to have taken place in the past two months at one of Tirana’s luxury venues. A month ago, the owner of the “Lirza” restaurant, 27-year-old Artur Greri, fell victim to anonymous gunfire. Gëzim Isufi, another venue owner, was also killed over trivial motives.
Topi comes to the DP
The capital’s leader is replaced
The Democratic Party, Tirana branch, is changing its leader. Sources from the DP report that Tirana Mayor Albert Brojka, who until yesterday was also chairman of the Tirana DP, will be replaced in the coming days by Bamir Topi, former Minister of Agriculture in the Meksi 2 Government. Alongside Topi, Rexhep Karapici was also a serious candidate for the capital’s DP branch, but because of his roles on the parliamentary Order and SHIK committee, he was not considered the most suitable. Opinions about Topi, on the other hand, were more optimistic. Topi, who is said to have refused for a long time, was also a close friend of Brojka, so his candidacy has been welcomed by the younger section of the DP as well.
