Goodbye or see you again, communism?
On June 29 Berisha declares that he will part ways with communism. Is it true?
At his latest rally with his electorate, brought in from elsewhere to Laç, President Berisha solemnly declared that June 29 would mark the final break with communism. For six years, former communist Berisha has been declaring war on communism, but to this day he continues not to be on the side of the “victor.” The President cannot be blamed for the poor vocabulary he uses on the campaign trail or for his lack of arguments against communism. Perhaps he should be congratulated for the courage he is showing in keeping on its feet the bankrupt party that took people’s votes and disappointed Albanians. Berisha’s misfortune is his failure to break with his own origins. He continues to live and act under the pressure of his old love for communism. If he curses and shouts against communism, he brings nothing new to the democratic forces and opens no prospects for tomorrow’s Albania, free of communism underfoot—even if the communists are of the Berisha type. The question that might be asked after Berisha’s declaration that he would break with communism on June 29 is: will the parting be a goodbye or a see you again? Judging by Berisha’s style over these six years, we will certainly hear only “see you again, communism.” The reason is simple: communism cannot be defeated by communists. Whatever the outward differences, the struggle between the PS communists and the PD’s neo-communists will not be a losing one. The Albanian electorate will no longer allow Berisha and his party to hide behind anti-communist slogans and favor the establishment of communism in post-democratic Albania. It is pointless to hope that Berisha will change his mindset in the fight against communism. His mentioning it at every turn, and setting dates and days for when we will part ways with communism, stem from the hereditary pathological disease called communism. We have heard Berisha say before, during these six years, that communism was dead, that Albania had parted with communism once and for all. This is what has happened each time Berisha and his party have manipulated their noisy victory. Whenever Berisha begins a campaign, he declares that we will part ways with communism. As soon as he wins, he proclaims its defeat. But as soon as elections begin again, Berisha declares war on communism. How many times will this happen? Goodbye or see you again, communism? For Berisha: see you again; for the United Right, vote for us so that we can part ways once and for all and say—goodbye, communism!

Republican Party: Proportional-representation list according to votes
The PR Steering Committee, unable to convene a meeting of the Council these days
According to the votes
the National Council these days to review the proportional-representation lists, decided to submit to the CEC the proportional list containing only the names of chairman Godo and deputy chairman Mediu. The names for the other places will be determined by the voting results. This means that the third person on the list will be the candidate who gathers the largest number of votes nationwide; the fourth will follow, and so on.
This decision is based on the principle of free competition, eliminating subjectivity.
This criterion was unanimously approved by the National Council in May last year.
Mr. Godo meets the European observer
On June 12, Mr. Godo had a lengthy meeting with the European Committee’s observer mission, made up of Mr. Ambassador Daan Everts, head of mission; Rene Alzin, deputy head for political affairs; Van Der Vind, Brigadier General for operational affairs; and other staff members.

The tragedy happened differently
“The article published in the newspaper “Republika” under the headline “The Devil’s Hand Kills Mother” is untrue.” This is what members of the victim’s family stated yesterday. The article says that the son, after arguing with his mother, killed her. He then killed himself as well.
According to the victims’ relatives, the truth is different. While cleaning the gun, the son accidentally killed himself. His mother, after seeing her son lying on the ground, shot herself with the same gun. The newspaper “Republika” apologizes to the family and shares in its grief.
