Albania does not belong to the Socialists

. This is the time for politicians to lower their voices, stop the polemics, and climb down from their high horses. The people are tired of rallies. Yesterday, at three press conferences, politicians did not forget their old habit of insults and offenses, accusations and counter-accusations. Yesterday, too, speaking into the microphones of foreign and local journalists, politicians insulted their opponents without watching their language. Prime Minister Fino has called a roundtable of political parties, which has been boycotted by the Democratic Party and three other small parties that failed to hold on to the one-percent threshold. The Democrats’ failure to attend the roundtable is nothing other than a repetition of the precedent for a political vacuum. The arguments put forward by Shehu and Pollo were so stale that nobody believed them. Comparing July 3 with April 2 was nothing other than an irresponsible call for destabilization, a call to bring people out into the streets. The Democrats said not a word about the illegality of the adventurous march by the man claiming the royal throne. Perhaps politicians would do well to learn from yesterday’s stance by the Legalist Minister of Justice, Spartak Ngjela, whom membership in the Monarchist Party did not prevent from declaring: Republics are established through revolutions and marches, not through a royal throne. The moment called for political forces in Albania to raise the white flag temporarily. The time calls for a genuine peace pact to be established. This is not the moment to fill the squares with legal and illegal rallies; the people are tired, with seven months of protests weighing on them, around 2,000 dead and more than 4,000 injured. Will this tally make our politicians come to their senses? Yesterday’s abuses, the king’s illegal demonstration, and the dead-end road the DP has embarked on in opposition are not signs of stability. It is true that there will be political struggle in the future, too, but politicians should take a temporary “rest” until the country emerges from the chaos and Albania enters a period of calm. Calling for a halt to the political struggle creates the impression that we want to pave the way with flowers for the Socialists to take power, but Albania belongs to Albanians, not to Socialists, Monarchists, Democrats, Ballists, or Republicans. Although the Republicans have declared that they will not be part of the Socialist government, they will not want to destabilize the country, intensify the political crisis, or further isolate Albania. During this year, Albanian politicians have had plenty of material to reach the conclusion that politics is not conducted by throwing people into battle and turning them against one another.
