The Parliament of hope
. Today the new Parliament convenes, emerging from the state of emergency that Albania has been experiencing for more than four months. It is the first parliament with a broad pluralistic base, despite half of the political forces being represented minimally, by just one deputy. But will this be a parliament of hope, a parliament of national reconciliation? That is in the hands of those who today receive the mandate to represent the people. If they start from the idea that the parliamentary chamber is a rostrum where their oratory will be put to the test, then Parliament’s work will go badly. This Parliament emerged from the lava of popular anger, from great disappointment, from ideals and hopes for true democracy that had been crushed. In a sense, this Parliament bears the great responsibility of national salvation. It is a parliament that comes from war. The time at which it convenes coincides with the collapse of the state, the mutilation of the nation, national division, and fabricated north-south conflicts. In these circumstances, it must take responsibility for bringing the nation onto the path of the democracy it has dreamed of. To achieve this, first it must reconcile Albanians, rebuild the ruined state, revive the economy, and find shelter for Albanians who left their homes as collateral in the pyramid schemes. Just as Fino’s government was named the Government of Reconciliation, the new Parliament’s mission is to reconcile Albanians—not with calls and pleas, but through laws. Parliament’s urgent task is to give Albania a constitution. From now on, Albanians must be guided not by instincts but by morality, by the [?] of mutual understanding among Albanians, not by Kalashnikovs but by laws. Only in this way will we enter democratic Europe, which, under the guise of diplomacy, has drawn the line at the dogwood tree. But will this Parliament be able to reach an understanding with all Albanians, regardless of which parties they belong to? That depends on the parliamentarians themselves. If they adhere to the code with which they presented themselves in the elections, everything will proceed normally: the electorate will be mobilized, everything will proceed normally: the government will be formed, laws will be passed, we will have a constitution, and the weapons will be handed over. For the new Parliament to fulfill its mission, it must not imitate the parliament of May 26, which will be remembered for its destructive maneuvering, for its servile deputies, commanded by the shadow of the unit, and for its militant deputies, whose eyes were blinded even in the face of national bloodshed. They not only failed to prevent the national catastrophe, but poured gasoline on the fire. Instead of thinking about Albania, they focused. Instead of thinking about Albania, they focused [?] until they stood before the Unit and melted into adoration, until they placed a second crown on him, while Albania mourned the national catastrophe. Parliament convenes today; may it be a parliament of hope, not disappointment. In wishing Parliament success in its work, we wish Albania a rebirth.
