Arbnori's demands perpetuate the imprisonment of television information

The self-isolation of the so-called Albanian Mandela entered its seventh day. From a human perspective this isolation is painful, especially when one takes into account the years in prison, the hunger strikes in the death cells and Mr. Pjetër's advanced age. Mr. Pjetër has decided to challenge his political opponents, and for that he has chosen the most extreme form of struggle: self-isolation. From the point of view of political hunger strike, Arbnori's action is not very justified. The arguments are not in Pjetër's favor. First of all, he should have prepared public opinion for this latest political move, whose real issue has not been studied much. Second, during five years the former parliamentary speaker should have realized that he could also find himself on the other side of the line, that is, in opposition, even if only temporarily. If he had opened the way when he had the keys in his hands, today he would not need to sacrifice himself to the point of a hunger strike. Being also a symbol of a fighter challenging those who violate free speech and free information, Pjetër would be much more credible if he had freed television from politics, but apparently he liked it when they kept the screen at the disposal of himself and Berisha. Yesterday Berisha made public Arbnori's demands. In other words, Mr. Pjetër (meaning Berisha) is asking to know the television news broadcasts as his own share. He even wants both the opposition and the government to have a part. In plain Albanian, Arbnori's demand means that television should continue to be a poodle for Albanians, while the politics that destroyed our state should continue to sit cross-legged on the news program. As if Albanians should spend their whole lives seeing themselves as though they were in an election campaign! If we continue to keep the harshness of the political climate on television, we will have no chance to free the news from the chains of politics. Yesterday Mr. Berisha showed signs that he had no intention of breaking Arbnori's hunger strike. This is a signal that speaks for the better. Perhaps Mr. Arbnori will nevertheless bring his strike to an end. In any case, as a form of protest it was not without usefulness; it showed the Albanian left that it will not be easy to denigrate the opposition. Our appeal to the Albanian Mandela would be not to seek to hold television news hostage for party purposes. Let us begin the new era on television, where the news is news; Albanians should not have to learn what is happening in Albania by opening foreign channels and turning off TVSH, as if escaping some great evil. Mr. Pjetër, you are a writer and should fight for a free, public, national television. Leave the slogans to newspapers for news and statements. We are never in an election campaign, times change, never propose that party news be excluded altogether from news bulletins, but rather that special programs be produced without "stealing" social information
