Prodi, don’t rush. Albanians still have troubles

- Nano replies with sophistry from Brussels: Albanians will return if they have a reason to return... Prodi, don’t rush. Albanians still have troubles - Nano replies with sophistry from Brussels: Albanians will return if they have a reason to return... Yesterday Romano Prodi spoke more openly than ever before. He spoke quite openly against Nano’s Government. In the diplomatic language of the Italian prime minister, it is understood that Albania should prepare not to expect anything great from the neighboring government, from which Albanians have already sucked their mother’s milk dry and are fed up to the nose. If the refugees are not restrained, if an agreement is not reached, we will send no aid and no investment to Albania. But is it possible for Albania, and specifically the Nano Government, to stop the flow of emigrants? The Albanians did not stop when the sea was being guarded by “ALBA”, so now that the order is completely alone and still unorganized? In these circumstances it is entirely impossible to stop the flow of those leaving Albania. Consequently, if Prodi is serious about his statement, Nano must make a proper reckoning. Prodi’s pressure, if it does not conceal diplomatic aims regarding the civility of Albanian politics with the other neighbor, Greece, must be taken seriously and Nano’s foreign policy must reflect positively in relations with Italy. It seems that Albania’s roads to Europe, the good states that are to pass through Rome, differently we kiss with Milo. It seems that in his chamber Prodi is giving Albania a lot of space and time. The Albanian people do not ignore Italy’s help, but recent reactions, the feeling of the feet of Albanian emigrants, smells bad. Why precisely now? Does the concern of the Prodi Government really come only from the refugees of March, worn out from the camps? We believe this to be the truth, because among the returnees there are many who have been working in Italy for years. If it is true what Prodi says, that he has received indications from the Italian people, if he has received violent letters from his compatriots, that does not mean that Albanians should be hunted like wild animals. There are more humane ways to drive Albanians away and make smoke for third-world immigrants. It seems that anti-Albanian sentiment is slowly and gradually being nurtured in Italy. If among Albanians there are criminals, mafiosi, traffickers, let them be expelled with pleasure, while those who need a crust of bread should not feel persecuted. We would ask Prodi not to rush in his statements. Albania still needs the help of the neighboring powers, our order has still not been restored, even after the destruction of the state, still we cannot... Continued on page 4
