Talks with the Serbs in the presence of a third party

-Milo presents the demands, Milutinović took notes and recalled the Serbian line The meeting between the Albanian foreign minister and his Serbian counterpart drew the attention of European diplomatic circles and beyond, and became material for Albanian politicians in building the politics of the day. The comments are noisy; let us see what remains after the noise. To dialogue means to find a way to solve the problem that troubles you. In this respect, the Milo-Milutinović meeting can be considered a breakthrough. But Albania cannot remain indifferent to the fate of 2 million Albanians living under the Serbian darkness. To look at things without regard for what the violent Serbian state has done until now means to deny them a future. The total denial of the human rights and freedoms of our blood brothers obliges the Albanian state to become a defender in international forums. So far our role has been carried out in a dilettantish and spiteful way. From Milo's statements it is understood that the Albanian side raised before the Serbian side the concern over the serious situation in which the Albanians of Kosovo find themselves and asked their counterparts to respect their legitimate rights recognized by the international community, the development of bilateral relations, and the solution of Kosovo's status according to the best options presented by the Albanians of Kosovo. Well, if our side declared the demands it put forward, (Milo told us), what options did the Serbian side present? It is learned that Milutinović took notes and did not forget to put the Serbian thesis on the table; the Kosovo issue is an internal issue of the Serbian state..! That is enough to understand that the Serbian side continues to blow the same old tune, rooted in nationalism. The gap created between Albanians and Serbs by the inhuman methods of the violent Serbian state means that the talks are viewed with skepticism by Albanians, everyone, and across the border. The failure of Rugova's agreement with the Serbian side, the annulment of the Constitution, are sufficient to justify the skepticism. Yesterday Albanian politicians were reserved about the Milo-Milutinović meeting. From PD comes the preliminary comment: an agreement on the backs of Kosovars... Meanwhile, the chairman of the Foreign Policy Commission in the Albanian Parliament advises: Albanian diplomacy must take careful steps in relations with the Serbs. We must be on safe ground. The experience of past years has taught us a valuable lesson. You may reach agreement, but tomorrow you find yourself facing surprises. The Serbian side must give guarantees. It would be good for Albanian diplomacy for talks with the Serbs to be conducted under the care of a third party, under the supervision of authoritative European political structures or under the direct care of the USA.
