Kosovo burns, politicians comb their hair

The Albanian political crisis undermines the national cause The opposition’s slogans of “co-government” and “meritocracy” fall apart in the face of open tendencies to seize all administrative activity through militarist ideology. Faced with the revenge of the new rulers, the counter-revenge of the PD opposition should not be too motivated, since it is driven by fixed beliefs of returning to power and not by respect for the principles of democracy. The Albanian political reality is further darkened by criminalization and fatalism, as well as by the stance toward the national cause. The protests of Kosovo students have not inspired a spirit of political cooperation to draft a joint agreement in support of Albanian patriotism in Kosovo. Albanian clan politics is presented as being instrumentalized by various conjunctures, which only stimulate the national will to oppose Serbian violence and perversity with diplomatic language that above all respects national principles and universal human rights. The current positions of the Albanian political forces on the Kosovo issue represent a favorable ground for the infiltration of the neighbors’ national chauvinism. The stance on the national cause must be publicly declared through statements and memoranda that appeal for active resistance to Serbian militarism, which seeks to hold hostage a noble and patriotic population. A nationwide platform for Kosovo must first be initiated in Parliament, where the will of the people is confirmed. However, Gjinushi is busy with the former president Berisha’s decrees, described as “corruption on a large scale,” while Foreign Minister Milo flirts with Serbian diplomacy in order to take account of the immediate interests of the Albanians. Parliamentarians should summon Mr. Milo to an interpellation after his enigmatic meeting with his Serbian counterpart, in order to learn the truth about that meeting. Kosovo calls for the unification of Albanian political positions, a nationwide consensus, which would in any case shorten Serbia’s violent policy.
