. Europe will perform the diplomatic rituals. The signing of the “blank check” is expected. Brussels, the “Eldorado” of Albanians! Today, the signing of emergency aid for our country is expected, in the form of a check for USD 12 million. Financial and diplomatic representatives of countries such as Italy, Austria, France, Germany, the USA, Spain, Luxembourg, Finland and Belgium, as well as representatives of the Council of Europe, the European Commission, the IMF, UNDP, the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, the Islamic Bank, etc., will be present at the official proceedings of the Brussels conference. A formal procedure, typical of Europe, will precede the signing of the “magic check”, promoted by the Nano cabinet as the main key to adequately averting the Albanian crisis. This symbolic gesture does not meet even 1/100 of the urgent needs of our economy, but Brussels’s courtesy will soften everything. According to the scale of European diplomatic importance, for Albania this promise is the most absolute check and the most effective mechanism for formalizing the national reconciliation process. Even 100 dollars for every Albanian is merely a festive gift and by no means vital assistance, but for European diplomacy it is a strategic investment in support of long-term interests connected not only with Albania, but also with the Balkans. As usually happens when Albanians are given gifts, the European donors will ask (continued on page 10)
