29 November, politics sobers up
This year's 29 November will be remembered as the most typical day of ideological revenge.
It is more than just a tribute to those who fought the war of liberation; the fiery ceremonies were aimed at restoring the political reputation of the Communist Party. None of the ceremony organizers took care to ensure that 29 November was not celebrated as it had been seven years ago, when the communist leadership was in power and, through the "cult of victory," carried out the fiercest genocide against national values, sowing violence and hostility among the Albanians who fought in the war. The festive trappings of yesterday's 29 November were as banal as those of the time of Hoxha and Alia's rule. Even the speakers did not differ, either in appearance or in gestures. In their apologies, just as before, the true protagonists of the War were not mentioned, those whom the dictator erased without a trace in order to rule like a medieval monarch.
After the festive memories of 29 November, the spirit of communist revenge was also felt, this time not in unison, but as a fierce internal struggle, which is expected to bring interesting developments in Albanian politics. The "jubilee" served as an electric shock for the left-wing electorate, highlighting its strongest wing. The conservative communists, who survived for so many years in illegality, morally nourished by both the PD and the PS, showed that "the socialist fortress is being taken from within," whether the self-styled moderators of the PS like it or not.
Yesterday in Fier, the communists used violence both against socialists and against democrats. This is perhaps a clear signal of supremacy, announcing the end of the PS's official mission. It is the PS itself that has given the communists the "green light" in Parliament and in political life. Now that the revenge of the "reds" is being enjoyed "en bloc," the socialists with their original ideas will surely try to find a new formula for coalition government. And the PD would also like to be part of it.
The struggle within the same camp is trying to move Albanian politics away from cartoonish schemes.
Tirana, a haven for homosexuals
In the Albanian capital, not only women prostitute themselves, but gay men too.
A brothel for perverted men has still not been confirmed, although several places known to homosexuals have been quietly identified.
