An educating or regulating state?

Democracy becomes stronger and more vital the less it resorts to violence. But in a country like Albania, the fate of democracy is uncertain as long as crime is an everyday occurrence and the spirit of freedom is misunderstood to the point of extreme aggression. Our democracy cannot achieve high standards by tolerating crime, but by punishing it with extreme measures. From this perspective, abolishing the death penalty would be a suicidal luxury, without the moral and political strength to guarantee an advanced Western-style system. Regardless of the recommendations made by the Council of Europe, applying the death penalty first and foremost serves a purpose for Albanian citizens. This is the PR’s purpose, also set out in a platform for the press. In this respect, it is connected to the foundation and moral dignity, which is not at odds with tradition… Continued on page 2
