Today PR celebrates the 7th anniversary of its founding. It was born on 10 January 1991 as a hopeful alternative for consolidating Albania’s fragile democracy. Over these 7 years, the Republican Party has spoken to Albanian citizens in the same language—the language of sincerity; it has stayed away from electoral deceptions and primitive hypocrisy. PR has survived with dignity in the hell of Albanian politics, a politics which, over these 7 years, has not managed to escape the noose PP left behind after communism was buried as a system. PR has never told Albanians that they would wake up in Europe tomorrow morning; it has never promised Albanians the impossible just to snatch a few votes. Republicans enter the Albanian political spectrum pledging to serve the nation and denounce evil, whatever mask it wears. With its principled politics and the morality of the finest Albanian traditions, PR continues to convey the message of easing tensions and national reconciliation. The thought and practice of PRSH are grounded in Albanian morality, in the patriotic traditions of the National Renaissance, and in the valuable achievements of European-American conservatism. Clearly positioned as a Right-wing Party, it considers communism an enemy of the nation and the Left its political opponent. Firmly based on the three pillars of its programme, PR fights for a state governed by the rule of law and a respected social morality, where human rights are respected according to European standards. The Republican programme expresses the renewal of the national conscience, whose norms were mutilated yesterday by communism and today by pseudo-democracy and neo-communism.
