The flames that scorched and reduced Shkodra to ashes are laying waste to all of Albania. The open wounds left in Albania a year ago have done nothing at all to make politicians repent. Politics is showing signs that it is still suffering from madness. In the end, it should get treatment. Disasters and tragedies make the country’s misfortunes seem endless, but politics could not care less about the open graves. Even yesterday, as the flames devoured the Library, one of the richest in the Balkans, as every state institution was reduced to ashes, as the state surrendered unconditionally and citizens rushed to its defence, the DP and SP were playing politics, each trying to profit from the burning of the ancient city. The SP and its allies accused the DP of being the owner of criminal gangs, while Berisha sang the old song about the state security service.
