Violence compromises dialogue

. Violence seriously compromises the progress of Albanian-Serbian dialogue. The absence of the international party from the talks that began last week means that Milošević’s efforts to return to alternative strategies continue. Yesterday, a terror-inducing situation prevailed in the war zones in Drenicë. The Serbian side has decided to play the counterargument card. Perceiving war as the official language of dialogue, the Serbs are increasingly tending toward political radicalization in order to curb any appetite for change. Never denying its continuity, and even attempting to integrate its own roots in the past, Milošević’s politics has an inherent tendency not to break away from its old substratum. Its Bolshevik legacy constitutes the most important features of Serbian politics, and nationalism is part of it. This national communism promises the systemic transformation of the diversity of political and social entities. In this way, it seeks to secure moral satisfaction by suppressing others. In this sense, dialogue with the Albanian side has a utopian outlook. When Serbs are autocratic, they cannot operate otherwise. Continued on page 4
